The SCGT Tourism Brochure reached the semi finals in the Regional Development Victoria Achievement Award in the 2010 Regional Achievement & Community Awards.

Business in the Moira Shire are being affected by the flow on effects of the drought and the economic downturn, I asked businesses in Strathmerton and surrounding towns how they were being affected by the current financial climateand drought..

I was surprised at their honesty about the financial hardship they were facing and could I do something to make a difference and hence the Small Communities Great Treasures brochure was born.

This is an amazing Shire we live in; I was able to develop a cheese and wine tour. A yea old country pub tour, a bakery and gourmet food tour, an antiques and collectables tour with great places to visit along the way with a great map inside to navigate your way.

I travelled to sixteen small communities in the shire spoke, at community coordinators meetings, to communities and tourism operators, explained my vision to promote economic growth for their community and I was welcomed with open arms. It has been a long journey from the concept to information gathering, designing and developing the brochure, all my own photography, to having it printed and now marketing the brochure. The Small Communities Great Treasures brochure is available in information centres throughout the shire and many shops, hotels and motels and is receiving rave reviews from tourists and locals.

The Small Communities Great Treasures tourism brochure encourages’s tourism and economic growth in our drought affected communities. It helps tourists find places of interest they may never have come across, it gives locals places to visit and take their family when they visit with a great map to navigate the shire.
